Animal Affects

September 19 - 20, 2024

 

NAACAS will hold its second biennial meeting September 19 – 20, 2024, on the topic Animal Affects.

Highlights of the meeting will be

  • a keynote by Maneesha Deckha

  • a plenary session in celebration of the work of Carol J. Adams, with Claire Jean Kim, Annie Potts, Kathryn Gillespie, Jessica Eisen & Carol J. Adams

  • a plenary session on queer theory, misanthropy and animal vengeance with Emelia Quinn, Robert McKay, & Naisargi Davé

  • two cat-themed book sessions on Nayanika Mathur’s Crooked Cats: Beastly Encounters in the Anthropocene and Leigh Claire La Berge’s Marx for Cats: A Radical Bestiary

We invite proposals for individual papers and entire panels that engage with the conference theme. For example, we invite proposals on, but not limited to, the following themes:

·       animals and feminist care theory

·       queer theory and animal love

·       affect theory and critical animal studies

·       mourning more-than-human animals and more-than-human animal mourning

·       hating humans in the Anthropocene and species shame

·       biodiversity loss and grief

·       animal joy

Authors should send short abstracts (~500 words) and bios (~150 words) to naacas2024@gmail.com by Friday, December 1, 2023. Authors will be notified of decisions by Friday, December 15, 2023.
