“The animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for whites, or women for men.”

—Alice Walker

The North American Association for Critical Animal Studies (NAACAS), inspired by its sister society The European Association for Critical Animal Studies (EACAS), is a biennial conference for critical, anti-speciesist research in human-animal relations. While EACAS meets in odd numbered years, NAACAS will meet in even numbered years, to allow for cross-pollination between the societies. Founded in June 2019, the first meeting of NAACAS will take place in May 2020 in Kelowna, B.C., Canada.
